The death of a world-renowned celebrity usually attracts a huge amount of media attention. Everyone remembers where they were when they heard the news of David Bowie passing away in 2016, and who can forget hearing the news that Michael Jackson had died in 2009?
News stories about deaths of popular celebs tend to dominate headlines for weeks at a time, but that’s not always the case when a celebrity retires or slips out of the limelight. Some celebrity deaths seem to go by completely unnoticed.
Throughout the years, which celebrities have passed away without any mention or attention from the media? Some of these deaths may come as a surprise to you!
Mary Brockert was better known by music fans as Teena Marie, a moniker that originated from her nickname, Tina. She hit it big in the ’80s after being signed by Motown Records, with some of her biggest hits being “Square Biz,” “Lovergirl,” and “Ooo La La La.” Teena Marie was well known for her soulful and emotional vocals, but no one could have predicted the tragic ending to her career.
During a hotel stay in 2004, a picture frame tragically fell on Teena’s head, resulting in her experiencing severe seizures for the remainder of her life. She sadly passed in 2010, at the age of 54. Teena’s death was discovered by her daughter, Alia Rose, who became a singer like her mother.
Andy Hallett, best known for his supporting role on the TV series Angel, died unexpectedly at the age of 33 as a result of cardiovascular disease. Hallett’s condition was initially caused by a dental infection that spread through his bloodstream and into his heart, which resulted in five days of hospitalization and a severe case of cardiomyopathy that would take his life five years later.
After his lengthy illness, Hallett retired from acting because it was too physically strenuous, but he continued to pursue his passion for singing, which was how he got discovered in the first place. Hallett was memorialized by having two of his songs featured on the Angel soundtrack, as well as his character having a final send-off in a comic series following his passing.
Trevor Goddard had early aspirations of becoming a musician, just like many of his peers growing up in England. Instead of being known as a world-famous musician, however, Goddard’s most notable work would come from acting: his biggest role came in the form of the martial artist Kano in the 1995 classic movie Mortal Kombat, which was based on the eponymous video game.
Goddard also appeared in 42 episodes of the hit TV show JAG before he was unfortunately found dead in his home in 2003, having fatally overdosed on multiple drugs, including heroin and cocaine.
